enrolling at DREAMS!

Things to know before enrolling at dreams

  1. Completion of an orientation does not guarantee enrollment
  2. DREAMS is not a clinical program, meaning we do not have social workers, therapists, or staff trained to assist students that require a higher level of need, some students’ eligibility to participate in the program may require them to attend with an aide. This is decided on a case-by-case basis.
  3. DREAMS works hard to remove the barrier of cost to attending our high-quality arts programming and prioritizes families who could not otherwise access this type of enrichment for their student(s). Families in a higher income bracket may get waitlisted or be offered reduced options.
  4. DREAMS is not a drop-in program. The skills and work students complete take multiple class periods and attendance is very important for keeping DREAMS tuition-free and for students to get the most out of our program.  The importance of attendance will be discussed more at the orientation

All about orientations

After submitting your interest form below, Ciera, our student support coordinater will reach out to schedule an orientation.

At your orientation a member of our staff will give you and your student a tour of our campus,  introduce you to our key staff members, talk about the DREAMS rules and policies and answer any questions you and your student may have. (This typically takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour)

When does dreams enroll new students?

The best way to know when the next open enrollment period is for DREAMS programming is by following us on social media! We have an instagram and Facebook page that we update regularly with all things DREAMS!

If your student has already completed our orientation process at DREAMS and has been enrolled by our staff you are able to register them for any of our programming!

Registration links are sent via email to all DREAMS Families!

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of classes do you offer?

DREAMS is a high quality, multi-disciplinary arts program.  Our professional Teaching Artists teach visual, performing and digital arts.  Examples of classes include acrylic painting, pottery, jewelry making, printmaking, collage, acoustic and electric guitar, ukulele, drums, drumline, piano and keyboard, voice, theatre, various dance genres, photoshop, photography and videography just to name a few!  In the near future we will be offering classes in cooking, nutrition and organic gardening so please stay tuned!

Do you provide transportation?

Unfortunately we do not have transportation at this time but we are working on it! Please be sure to speak to us about your transportation needs!

What is the student to teacher ratio?

Typically our classes will have between 8 and 10 students to each teacher and there will also be at least one trained volunteer or college intern in each class.

Are there any special requirements to take classes?

No!  We want all students who are interested in arts education to join us!  The earliest age we accept is 8 and students can enroll through age 17.  Students are encouraged to continue at DREAMS for as long as they are enrolled in high school.

How much does DREAMS cost?

Because of government and non-government grants, individual donations and fundraising efforts, DREAMS is able to provide high quality arts education to all students at no charge.

Where are you located?

DREAMS is located in the historic Wilmington City Municipal Garage at 901 Fanning Street in Wilmington, NC.  Our building is a completely renovated, modernized art center with 6 classrooms, an exhibit Gallery and a 4,000 square foot performance venue!  The campus is also home to a very large organic garden!
