Want to teach?

Are you a performing, visual or literary artist with teaching experience? Are you dedicated to sharing your knowledge and talents with our community´s youth? DREAMS is always looking for new teaching artists to join our team, either at the Center or at one of our many outreach sites. All of our teaching artists are independent contractors who are compensated on an hourly basis according to experience, etc. If you´re an enthusiastic artist who is interested in being a role model and artistic mentor, we want to hear from you!

Please keep in mind that here at DREAMS, we implement best practices in both the arts and youth development fields. Our approach is grounded in part in the Search Institute´s 40 Developmental Assets theory (http://www.search-institute.org/assets). While we emphasize artistic excellence, we particularly welcome projects that further students´ community involvement, environmental awareness, social skills, cultural consciousness and emotional literacy. Want an example? Think African drumming, world dance, recycled and public art, or theater for social change. Our amazing teaching artists devise projects that include teamwork, collaboration, positive conflict resolution, and other elements that facilitate our young artists´ journey along the road to becoming creative, committed citizens…one child at a time.

DREAMS views creativity as an inclusive and innate attribute that all children possess. Our program’s philosophy includes a respect for youth, as well as a continued dedication to their intellectual, personal, and artistic development.

DREAMS programming follows the New Hanover County School Traditional calendar.
